Kukirin G4 Electric Scooter Review: Speed, Comfort, and Innovation

Kukirin G4 Electric Scooter Review: Speed, Comfort, and Innovation

By Bike Test

Today, I experienced a lot of "firsts" with the Kukirin G4 electric scooter. This scooter breaks the mold with features I’ve never seen before in an e-scooter. From its massive touchscreen display to its impressive top speed and unique hollow steering column (which supposedly improves aerodynamics), the G4 seems to defy expectations. But is it worth the price? Let’s dive in and find out.

First Impressions: Standout Features

1. The Massive Touchscreen Display

The first thing that catches your eye is the large touchscreen display. It’s sleek, modern, and packed with controls—but is it practical?

  • Three main buttons: Power, ride mode selection (which determines speed assistance), and a toggle between km/h and mph.

  • Responsiveness? Meh. You have to press quite firmly for it to register inputs. Switching modes can be frustrating—sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

  • A redundant feature? There’s also a physical button on the right handlebar that turns the scooter on/off and, when double-clicked, changes ride modes. Honestly, this button is way more convenient than the touchscreen.

Verdict: The touchscreen feels more like a gimmick than a necessity. The physical button does everything faster.

2. Batman-Worthy Design & Build

The Kukirin G4 has a sleek black-and-gray color scheme with orange accents, giving it a premium look. But the real showstopper?

  • Massive 9cm-wide tires—they look like something straight out of The Dark Knight.

  • Suspension tuned for comfort: The spring suspension is softer than most scooters in this category, making city rides smooth even on cobblestones or rough pavement.

  • High ground clearance (19cm): You can glide over curbs without stopping.

Performance: Speed & Ride Experience

1. Acceleration & Riding Modes

Unlike most scooters, the G4 doesn’t move just by pressing the throttle—you have to kick off first, then the motor engages.

  • Eco Mode (20 km/h): Perfect for city commuting (and legal in most urban areas).

  • Turbo Mode (Claimed 70 km/h): But does it really hit that speed?

2. Speed Test: Does It Really Go 70 km/h?

I tested it on a 300-meter stretch (with no traffic):

  • 0 → 20 km/h: Instant.

  • 30 → 50 km/h: Strong push.

  • Max speed reached? 62 km/h (not 70).

    • Possible factors: Wind resistance, battery level, or road conditions.

Conclusion: Even if it doesn’t hit 70 km/h62 km/h is still insane for a single-rear-motor scooter.

3. Braking & Safety

  • Dual mechanical disc brakes (140mm rotors)—no hydraulics, but they stop powerfully even at 60 km/h.

  • No wobbling or flex: The frame is rock-solid, with zero play in the steering column.

Practicality: Daily Commuting

1. Battery & Range

  • 23.4Ah battery → Claimed 70 km in Eco Mode.

  • Real-world test: Mixed riding (Eco + Sport) gave me around 50 km, which is still excellent.

2. Folding Mechanism

  • Super simple: Fold the stem, lift the latch, and it’s done.

  • No looseness: The hinge feels durable and wobble-free.

Final Verdict: Who Is This Scooter For?

The Kukirin G4 is not just about speed—it’s about comfort, stability, and premium feel.

✅ Best for:

  • Commuters who want a smooth, powerful ride.

  • Riders who appreciate a sturdy, well-built scooter.

  • Those who want long range without sacrificing performance.

❌ Not ideal if:

  • You want instant acceleration without kick-starting.

  • You don’t need extreme speed (a cheaper scooter might suffice).

Price & Discount

At ~$859, it’s a premium option, but worth it if you prioritize speed + comfort.

Final Thoughts

The Kukirin G4 is one of the most comfortable and powerful scooters I’ve tested. It’s fast, stable, and built like a tank—perfect for urban riders who want both thrill and practicality.
